Tom Saunders was born in the Bronx, NY where he attended Manhattan Prep and
Manhattan College. Following Vietnam era service in the US Navy he joined New York
Telephone Company where he worked for 17 years in toll switching operations.
In 1985 Tom joined Argo Communications Corporation of New Rochelle, NY where, as
International Operations Manager, he managed a NYC toll switch/international gateway
and implemented switched voice and Intelsat Business Services between the US and
France.
From 1987 through 1995 Tom held systems engineering positions in support of major
accounts sales at Timeplex Incorporated, Infotron Systems Corporation, and Sprint
Business.
In 1995 Tom joined AT&T's Technical Marketing organization where he devised
enterprise networking and content distribution solutions for media and entertainment
companies in the Signature Client Group. In 2000, he was presented with the
organization’s Technical Achievement Award. He retired in 2004 after a 36-year career.
Tom is a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Post-retirement, Tom became active in the Rotary Club of Rye, NY where served as
club president in 2009-10 and later as founding president of SPRYE, an Aging in Place
“village” that serves older adults in Rye and three surrounding communities.
In 2011 Tom was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International and received the
Westchester County Legionnaire of the Year award from the American Legion. He was
elected to the Westchester County Senior Citizens’ Hall of Fame in the same year.
Tom served for nine years (2016-2025) as a trustee of The Osborn, a continuum of care
retirement community (CCRC) with 400+ residents in Rye and chaired the board of its
home care business unit. He has also served on the boards of SPRYE, the Rye Rotary
Foundation, the Rye Interfaith Housing Corp.(HUD § 202 sponsor), and the Naugatuck
Rotary Foundation. He is past president of the Rotary Club of Naugatuck and he
previously served two terms as VP of his HOA’s Board of Directors.
Tom recently joined IEEE’s Agetech working group which focuses on establishing global
standards for telehealth and assistive technologies that serve the world’s aging
population.
Tom has been married to the former Emily Horan for 55 years. They lived in Rye for
thirty-four years before relocating to Prospect, CT. They have one daughter, Elizabeth
Longmore of Ridgefield, CT, and three grandchildren.
